“Near the forfront of the next generation of parenting tools...Red Tricycle is not your mother's parenting aide. Readers are razr-phone-toting, book-club-joining moms who at least know what a blackberry is."

The Art of the Photo

One peek at Shellie Gansz's portfolio; the iconic red stilletto boots below a bare pregnant belly; a child peeking around a concrete wall; two sisters intertwined in
a loving embrace, and you'll recognize her singular style.

As the founder of Shutterbox Photos, Gansz incorporates her love of modern design into her work. The result? Clean. Modern. Art. A framed portrait by Gansz will blend seamlessly among your Eames lounge chair and Nelson bubble lamp.

Decidedly un-photojournalistic, many of Gansz's portraits are shot at her downtown studio, utilizing her vast collection of furniture and collectibles or the urban landscape as a backdrop. Gansz relies on her skills honed as the mother of three to bring out the best in her young models - often racing up and down the street and playing games with children before even picking up her camera.

Moms-to-be appreciate Gansz's unique approach to maternity photography; she talks in-depth to her clients to find out what make them feel most womanly —be it a cowboy hat, a favorite shoe or a comfortable chair —and incorporates those elements into the session.

Clients appreciate the hard work and effort it takes to produce the beautiful, simple portraits. Shellie has mastered both studio light and natural light. Each session that takes place at Shellie's studio will include both indoor studio images and outdoor urban images (weather permitting). This is just one of the creative touches that has allowed Gansz to build a loyal following in Seattle —from families she has photographed to retailers who love to showcase her fresh, honest artwork (currently on display at tottini). Just one peek and you'll be hooked too.
