The Scoop

We were stunned when, new to Seattle, we ventured to the Skagit Valley strawberry fields with Little One and tried our first fresh, local berries. The word "yummy" never before so aptly described a taste experience. So we're thrilled that we can now get those local berries--and other local ingredients, like Vashon Island's lavender--mixed in with our favorite treat: ice cream. Molly Moon's Homemade Ice Cream opens in Wallingford with a party this Saturday, May 10, from 3 p.m.- 5 p.m., featuring free cones for kids and Dave Hernandez of the Shins as DJ. Molly Moon is both the shopÕs name and the proprietorÕsÐ a woman with a long-time passion for natural ice cream and a lovable French Bulldog/Boston Terrier who sometimes visits the shop. In addition to artisan flavors with a grown-up bent (balsamic strawberry, cardamom, Vivace coffee, Thai iced tea), this new family hangout offers classic strawberry, vanilla, and chocolate, too, and kid-friendly bubble gum. ThereÕs also sorbet in raspberry and mandarin chocolate. In addition to local finds, Molly Moon chooses organic ingredients, compostable dishes, and the shop itself was sustainably built. Being green has never tasted quite so delicious.
