Queen Anne's New Play-Store

Urban Kids Play owners Mikki and Curtis Kingrey chose the boutique's new Queen Anne location carefully -- they were looking for a place where neighborhood families would want to gather -- so they were thrilled to find a space with a welcoming front porch and a yard for the summer events they're planning. The shop's interior features low displays so you can see Little One from wherever you browse, and plenty of maneuvering room for strollers. Kiddies will enjoy the rotating range of big toys that are available to play with (currently a wooden airport), and the healthy snacks to munch. You'll find a wide range of toys and gifts, and shoes for infancy through six years. UKP is the first Seattle shop to offer the Swedish brand Vincent , which features hip Velcro shoes and rain boots in awesome color arrangements (pink with heart details; blue and brown bowlers). Many of the wooden toys are European – you'll find brands you know, like HABA and Melissa & Doug, and unique ones like the Polish brand Bajo. Also available: the uber-cool Automoblox , Elegant Baby blankets and dish sets, French Corolle dolls and accessories, miYim organic cotton plush toys, little twig bath products, and music from Putumayo, Dan Zanes, and local songster Doug Fleming. The space was designed with community in mind; all the displays are on wheels, so they roll aside to make room for the weekly kiddie yoga classes and story-times (in English and Spanish). Don’t forget to pick up an event calendar when you visit!
